Veterans' Preference in Public Employment
Under Chapter 295, Florida Statutes, the state and its political subdivisions must give preference in appointment, retention, and promotion to eligible veterans and certain spouses applying for public-sector jobs.
Eligibility: Wartime veterans, veterans with a compensable VA service-connected disability, veterans receiving VA/DoD compensation or pension, and certain spouses/surviving spouses who are Florida residents. Applies to state agencies, counties, cities, school districts, state universities, and special districts.

How to apply: Claim veterans' preference and submit your DD-214 when applying for a Florida public-sector position; disputes may be filed with the FDVA within 60 days of notification.
