Real Property Tax Exemption for 100% Disabled Veterans & Surviving Spouses

Virginia provides a full exemption from real property taxes on the principal residence (and up to one acre of land) of veterans with a 100% service-connected, permanent and total disability rating. The exemption may transfer to a qualifying surviving spouse.

Eligibility: Veterans with a VA service-connected 100% total and permanent disability rating, or a total disability based on individual unemployability (TDIU). Certain surviving spouses who have not remarried also qualify.

Estimated value: Full exemption of real property taxes on the primary residence and up to one acre

How to apply: Apply through your local Commissioner of the Revenue or the equivalent local tax office, providing your VA disability award letter.
